Repeat steps 1 through 6 until the MLV covers the whole wall or ceiling.Before installing MLV, use Putty Pads over outlet boxes for optimum sound isolation.Keep this hole as tight to the box as possible in order to ensure a good seal. Use a razor blade knife, cut along the box’s edges to create an opening. Locate the outlet box in the wall and press the MLV lightly against it. It is ideal to expose the plug boxes when each piece of MLV is installed. Carefully avoid covering electrical outlet boxes.For framing with a 24″ on-center distance, hammer an extra nail into the top and bottom plates between each stud. For 16″ On Center (OC) framing, use a hammer and drive a nail and washer on the MLV every 24″ OC along the length of the top plate of each stud.Attach every 8 inches along the top plate and the length of the studs. Utilize a pneumatic cap stapler to speed the installation. Maintain a uniform spacing between the ceiling and floor. Confirm that the MLV is aligned properly along the ceiling so that it drapes the wall evenly. Get the assistance of another person and put the first length of mass loaded vinyl at the upper corner of the wall.Using a Utility Knife, cut the MLV to the desired length. Cut a square edge using a straight edge or T-square.Lay the roll of MLV on the ground, and then cut it to the required lengths.Calculate the length between the ceiling and the floor and then subtract 1/8th -1/4 inches from the calculated length.Screw Driver, Hammer and Roofing Nails,.This significantly limits the amount of noise that may flow through walls, floors and ceilings, contributing to a quieter setting. The mass-loaded vinyl reduces thes vibrations by absorbing and transforming them into heat energy. When sound waves collide with a surface, they generate airborne vibrations. Mass loaded vinyl absorbs sound waves and prevents them from bouncing off objects. Unlike other materials such as acoustic foam panels, MLV can absorb vibrations/ impact sound waves. It can be stretched and return to its original shape. It’s a viscoelastic material that exhibits both viscous and elastic characteristics. MLV comprises two main ingredients polyvinyl chloride (vinyl/PVC) and barium sulphate or calcium carbonate. It’s also known as the Limp Mass Barrier.
